Do you ever feel like you are drowning underneath all of your responsibilities as a mom? Well let me tell you, you are not alone! It can be so difficult to find the time to complete your never-ending to-do list! Between taking care of the kids, running them to soccer and dance practice, making dinner, getting ready and looking gorgeous, and cleaning the whole house, moms have a lot on their plate!
Here are 9 awesome time management tips that I have found help me stay sane as a mom! If you follow these suggestions, you will even have extra time in your day for self-care and pampering. Sounds too good to be true, right? Wrong!
Use a Mom Planner
One of the best ways to stay organized and manage your time well is to use a planner. A planner helps you stay so organized as a mom! It gives you a place to write everything down and it helps you stay on track throughout the day.
Don’t just settle for one that you find at the grocery store, buy one that you absolutely fall in love with and can’t wait to write in to help you stay organized as a mom! I love Purple Trail and all the mom planners they have! With over 466 customizable mom planners you are sure to find one that you absolutely love!
Purple Trail has so many options to choose from! You can make custom covers with pictures of the people you love or choose a more simple design and have your name added to it. The best part of ordering a mom planner from Purple Trail is #1 you are supporting a small business! #2 the customer service is fantastic! #3 The products ship quickly! #4 Personalizing your planner is so easy, even my mom could do it! Yes, I made her play with it too!
How do you use a Mom Planner?
Each week, spend time making your weekly schedule. Talk to your husband and kids about their schedule. Figure out what is going on for everyone that week! I love to mark out my weekly plan Sunday after dinner. I write in my mom planner everything that I know about that isn’t already on there and then I get my meal plan done! This allows me to start off the week organized and ready rather than already feeling behind come Monday morning!
Planners are so fun because they allow artistic freedom as well. Doodle in your planner, add stickers, color in it, and make it your own! This activity doubles as stress-relief, so it is a win-win! Purple Trail has the best stickers for you to add when you buy your planner! And let me tell you I am loving them!
Why choose Purple Trail over all the other mom planners?
Well, first of all, how can you not with 466 customizable options? But seriously, I love how in the very beginning it lists the Holidays for two years! This allows me to know when things are happening when I am planning doctor’s appointments for the kids or family vacations!
Each month has a little “cheat sheet” I call it at the beginning where I can list birthdays, events, or things I need to remember that month! Then for each month, the dates are already on there! Yes, I know you might not think this is a big deal, but to me it is! Because let’s be real, I usually always screw up putting the date in the right box somehow. But not only that, Purple Trail has saved me so much time by doing this!
After the overall month, Purple Trail divides each month into days giving you PLENTY of room to write exactly what is going on down in the right spot. Even for the busiest mom, there is enough room to write everything down!
In the back of my mom planner from Purple Trail, I opted to have a pocket added (for a small fee) which in my opinion is totally worth it! It allows me to throw receipts in there, letters I need to mail, coupons for the store, etc so they don’t get lost in the bottom of my purse! And let’s be honest, my accountant is probably grateful that my receipts no longer have cheerios stuck to them thanks to my mom planner by Purple Trail!
And Lastly, how can you not fall in love with these cute stickers that you can dress your mom planner up with? Um… Yes, please!
Once you have your Purple Trail Mom Planner, it is time to prioritize like you’ve never prioritized before! Make sure that you are doing the most important things, first. The low-priority items can be put on the backburner for a couple of days, or even a week.
Make lists while you are thinking about your tasks, and then prioritize them and get them into your planner ASAP!
Create a Routine
An important part of time management involves creating a routine. Routines are going to be your saving grace! Make a routine for cleaning, laundry, self-care, and grocery shopping! Once you have an established routine, you won’t have to worry about when things are going to get done. Start your routine early in the morning. If you struggle with getting your morning off to a good start then check out some tips here to help you get started!
Have Your Kids Help
Enlisting your kids helps moms manage their time! Children really can be an excellent help around the home, we just have to teach them! Assign chores to your kids such as: making the beds, loading the dishwasher, folding the laundry, cleaning the counter, and helping with dinner!
If the kids help ease the workload, you will have more time to do other things! Plus, your kids will feel better about themselves and learn important life-skills while helping you out!
Set a Timer
I have fond childhood memories of my mom setting a timer for 30-minutes and saying, “Let’s see how much we can get done in just 30 minutes!” I was always amazed by just how much we got done.
I have now adopted this into my life as a mom. When I don’t feel like folding laundry I will set a time for 20 minutes and I say to myself, “I wonder how much of this I can fold?”
Sometimes when we are overwhelmed we don’t get anything done because we don’t know where to start. That is when I start a timer and clean bathrooms for 20 minutes or do dishes. Setting a timer will help you stay on schedule and save time!
Take Advantage of the Internet
Hallelujah for the internet and online shopping especially for subscription type services that just deliver the products you need right to your door every time! Did you know that you can order your groceries online, and just drive to the store and pick them up? Some places even will deliver groceries right to your door! Imagine how much time you will save by utilizing technology!
Another huge time saver is to automate your bills and make sure everything is online. It is so efficient to pay your bills online. Don’t waste your time submitting an actual envelope and driving to the post office anymore! As an added bonus, think of all the money you save on stamps these days!
Ditch Social Media
If you are a lonely stay-at-home mom, social media can be a wonderful companion. However, it tends to be one of the biggest time-killers of the 21st century. You might open up your phone to check one message, only to realize you have spent the past 35-minutes scrolling through Instagram or Facebook; then you have to scramble to get things done. Sound familiar?
Ditch social media and only use it during designated times. You can actually schedule time in your mom planner for social media usage. If you can be dedicated in ditching social media, your time management abilities will go through the roof!
I know, this seems like a daunting task. But guess what? It doesn’t need to be! Whatever you are making for dinner tonight, just double or triple it. Freeze whatever your family doesn’t eat and save it for dinner next week, or the next!
The internet is full of easy recipes for your meal prep. Block out several hours one weekend and get busy in the kitchen. You will be thanking yourself all week long!
Wake Up Earlier
No one likes to hear that they need to wake up earlier in order to manage their time more effectively. But just hear me out for a minute! I am not suggesting that you wake up at 5 in the morning. Heavens no! I am suggesting that you simply wake up 30 minutes earlier than you normally do. Why? These 30 minutes are going to be critical for setting the mood of your whole day!
There you have it! 9 time management tips for moms! So go to Purple Trail and customize your very own mom planner and be on your way to a more organized less stress life!
