Christmas Scavenger Hunt

The Christmas season is one of the most wonderful times of the year! I can’t imagine anything better than spending some much-needed quality time with family, celebrating together, and sharing our love through gifts, service, and time.

In my home, this festive season lasts for much longer than one or two days. It seems like all of December, we are wanting to celebrate with Christmas treats, movies, activities, countdowns, and parties

I’m always looking for new fun Christmas-themed activities to do with my family. One of my favorite family traditions I’ve found is doing a Christmas Scavenger Hunt! How fun is that? I’ve been thinking about some Christmas scavenger hunt ideas and have come up with a free Christmas Scavenger Hunt printable to share with you!

Christmas Scavenger Hunt Ideas

I love the idea of a scavenger hunt for a Christmas activity because they are so fun and productive. It gets all the kids doing an organized activity, and it encourages exploration and independent discoveries!

Fun activities for kids that also boost observations and other developmental skills are always a mom-win in my book!

It’s also an activity that you could do with the entire family. This isn’t a kids-only activity! Everyone can get involved and have a great time competing and searching together.

This would be a great activity to do with your kids as you begin decorating for the holidays to help build the excitement. It would also be fun to do this with some extended family. Perhaps you could make it part of your Christmas Eve traditions.

How to do a Christmas Scavenger Hunt

The great thing about this scavenger hunt is that you can do it however you want! I’ve come up with a list of common Christmas items, and you can choose how you want to play.

Depending on the number of people hunting, you could go as individuals or as small groups. If the kids are younger, you may just want to let them search, explore, and find the items, but if there are some older kids or adults playing it’s really fun to make it a competition!

If you do decide to make it a competition, consider fun themed prizes for the winners like opening an early present, no cleanup duty on Christmas, or the first servings of dessert.

It’s a good idea to print enough copies for each group, and I love getting a fun themed stamp or sticker to go with each list! How cute would it be to stamp each of the items with some of these Christmas stampers

Adjusting Scavenger Hunts for Different Ages

You may be wondering if it’s possible to do this scavenger hunt with little ones, or if it’s a good idea for older kids and teens. I’m here to tell you that this Christmas Scavenger Hunt is perfect for all ages!

Little ones will need a partner or two that can help, but they can absolutely take the lead and do this hunt! Toddlers and young children love exploring. Every discovery that they make will be so exciting. Explain what they are looking for and let them start their adventure!

Teens are notorious for not wanting to participate in activities, but they won’t want to miss out on this Christmas Scavenger hunt.

Think of ways that you can get them excited about it. Spending quality time with your family is so good for teens and guess what? They love spending time with you (even if they don’t admit it)! You could try making them a group leader, making it a competition, or other fun adjustments.
