I am always looking for super simple desserts. I tend to lean towards easy cookie recipes like eggnog cookies or simple fudge recipes like fantasy fudge when it comes to baking this time of year.

But this year, I wanted to try something a little bit different. I wanted it to appear that I had spent hours in the kitchen creating a Christmas dessert masterpiece when in all actuality it didn’t take a long time at all.

Meet these easy Christmas tree cupcakes. These super elegant cupcakes look like you have spent hours in the kitchen, but yet are ready to enjoy in less than 30 minutes. (yes, that includes prep, cooking, cooling, and decorating!)

These Christmas tree cupcakes are made with a box cake mix, small pretzel sticks, melting chocolate, and sprinkles.

By far, these are the most elegant, yet simple to make cupcakes you will find this holiday season!

How to Make Christmas Tree Cupcakes:

These easy Christmas Tree cupcakes are the perfect Christmas dessert that will wow your guests this year! The best thing about it? Prepped and done in under an hour.

The first thing you will want to do is to bake your cupcakes according to the cake mix box. You certainly can make your own cupcakes if you have a favorite recipe, but I normally just use the box mix because I like to hit the easy button on this one.

Once the cupcakes are out of the oven you will want to cool them completely.

With a piping bag and a star tip, you will want to apply the frosting from the outside of the cupcake inward in a swirling pattern.

Once it is frosted, I like to use sprinkles to give it a little something extra.

How to Make Christmas Tree Toppers

These easy Christmas Tree cupcakes are the perfect Christmas dessert that will wow your guests this year! The best thing about it? Prepped and done in under an hour.

In order to keep this recipe under an hour as I promised, I make the Christmas Tree Toppers while my cupcakes are in the oven and cooling.

To make your Christmas Tree Toppers, you will want to line a baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper.

In the microwave, melt your candy melts in 15-second intervals. Be sure to stir it every 15 seconds. You will want to continue to microwave it until it melts completely.

Once the chocolate has melted you are now ready to begin making your Christmas Tree cupcake topper.

For mine, I wanted to keep them white and elegant, but you can add green food coloring to the melting chocolate as well if you would like green Christmas tree cupcake toppers.

First, you will want to dip the pretzel stick into the melting chocolate. Once dipped, place on the parchment paper.

You will want to dip one pretzel for each cupcake plus a few extra before moving on to the next step.

Once all the pretzels are dipped, pour the remaining chocolate into the piping bag. You will want to use a fine tip for this part. If you don’t have a piping bag, you can use a Ziploc bag and cut a small hole in the corner of it.

Starting at the top of the pretzel, begin piping a Christmas tree shape back and forth gradually getting bigger as you get further down the pretzel.

Once piped, add sprinkles and set aside to cool.

The chocolate should be solid within 15 minutes, but if you are in a hurry you can place the tray in the fridge to speed it up a bit.

Once the chocolate tree topper has hardened, gently remove it from the parchment paper and place it through your iced cupcake.

Tips and Tricks for Easy Christmas Tree Cupcakes

Matching frosting to melting chocolate

It can be difficult to match the frosting to the candy melts. If you are doing elegant white cupcakes, as I did, I found Pillsbury classic vanilla and Gueradelli chocolate to be the best match for this.

If you are dying your frosting and melting chocolate you will want to try and get these as close as possible.

You could also do white cupcakes with coconut to appear as snow with green melting chocolate Christmas trees.

Frosting your Christmas Tree Cupcakes

These easy Christmas Tree cupcakes are the perfect Christmas dessert that will wow your guests this year! The best thing about it? Prepped and done in under an hour.

When you are frosting your cupcake, less is more with these easy Christmas tree cupcakes. You want to make a thin layer of frosting that way when you stick your pretzel Christmas tree in the cupcake it goes into the cupcake and does not fall over.

What kind of sprinkles do I use for Christmas Tree Cupcakes?

The possibilities are endless when it comes to the type of sprinkles you can use for these Christmas Tree Cupcakes. For these cupcakes, I used these Wilton Sprinkles found on Amazon.

How long do these Easy Christmas Tree Cupcakes Last?

These cupcakes are best eaten within 48 hours. After that, the pretzels tend to get a little stale.

Can you change these Christmas Tree Cupcakes?

You can totally change the look of these pretzel Christmas tree cupcake toppers, but just changing the color of the melting chocolate!

Take these elegant white and gold Christmas tree cupcakes perfect for a couple’s holiday party and change them to green and whimsical perfect for kids!

Just by changing the melting chocolate to green and a different sprinkle you have transformed these cupcakes!
