Are you looking to get your kids swim safe? Here we are sharing just how we are getting our kids swim safe this year!
This post is sponsored by Aqua-Tots Swim Schools. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Spring is in the air and in Texas that means just one thing, it is time for it to get insanely hot soon which means it is time for days at the lake and in the swimming pool! According to the CDC “drowning is the #1 cause of unintentional, injury-related death among children ages 1-4 and the #2 cause for children up to 14.” With that being said we were determined to out our little kids in swim lessons so that all the kids can be swim safe.
When we were choosing a place to enroll the kids in swim lessons this summer we chose to enroll them in Aqua-Tots. Aqua-Tots swim schools offer year-round lessons so that no matter what time of year it is, they are learning the skills they need to be water safe.
Why is Aqua-Tots Different than Other Swim Programs
Ever since we moved to Rockwall I have driven past our local Aqua-Tots in Rockwall and thought, I need to sign the little kids up when they are old enough. This winter I decided to stop by Aqua-Tots to see what it was all about. From the moment I walked in the door I was warmly welcomed by the entire staff. I instantly felt like Aqua-Tots was my family! On the spot, I signed the two little ones up for classes twice a week.
Aqua-Tots is different than other swim schools. It is warm and inviting and so clean! They have a small play area while kids wait for swim lessons. And I am amazed that the receptionist knows every child’s name and this just makes each child feel like a Very Important Person!
How I Felt Going Into Our First Lessons
As Talie went into our first lessons with Aqua-Tots I was so nervous! I mean I think every mom is right? We fear that our child will scream the whole time and be sad. And then they might be required to do something that they hate, which makes them hate swimming forever. Please tell me it’s not just me!
Talie’s Level 3 Swim Lessons at Aqua-Tots
So, for a few days before Talie’s lesson, we talked it up big time! How much fun she would have and how great swim lessons are! And yes, I am talking to the girl who HATES getting her face wet! So the day of swim lessons we put on her swimsuit and off we went!
We were greeted by the super awesome staff who already knew her name! This instantly made her feel comfortable while I was a nervous wreck! We arrived about 10 minutes early to get situated so we didn’t feel rushed which worked out perfectly.
When it was time for class to start she lined up and in she went with a half smile! They all lined up on the side of the pool, they sat down and then it was time to start.
I remember now feeling really nervous, how could I not? It was Talie’s turn, her instructor (who is SUPER AMAZING!) helped her off the wall and then she said something to her and Talie nodded her head and under she went!
Oh my gosh, instantly I was expecting massive screams when she popped up. Nope, nothing. She brushed her hair out of her face and said something to her swim instructor and she nodded. Talie climbed back on to the wall. Her teacher then helped her put some goggles on and she sat there so proud of herself! She continued on and did all the skills and had a fantastic lesson! She loved it!
Talie loves becoming swim safe with swim lessons at Aqua-Tots! She always tells me, “Mom, is today a swim day?”
What To Expect When You Go to Parent and Tot Classes at Aqua-Tots Swimming School
Tony (20 months) and I have been doing Parent and Tot Class at Aqua-Tots. (Level 2). He goes twice a week, once with me and once with his dad. His dad actually begs to go to swim lessons with Tony because he loves to spend that time with Tony in the water. There is something about the bond you have with your young toddler as you help teach them to be safe in the water.
I didn’t know what to expect going to Parent and Tot Classes at Aqua-Tots Swimming School. I had never attended one before with our other kids. As we entered the water for our own class our swim instructor made us feel so welcome! As we gathered in a circle in the water the swim instructor welcomed each child by singing the welcome song with the kids as we did basic movements to make them feel comfortable.
As soon as class began, Tony was hooked… Big Smile, engaged, loving Parent and Tot swim lessons at Aqua-Tots swim school! By the end, he did not want to leave. The 30-minute lesson was filled with simple songs to engage and fun for each child, but more importantly, it was filled with skills to help Tony if he was to fall into the water.
I can already see how he is understanding basic concepts to try and save himself if he fell in the water. These basic skills include: crawling on the steps, pulling himself up out of the pool, and turning to his back to give himself a break while swimming. And yes, he is learning all this at just 20 months!
The Aqua-Tots Swim Instructors
The swim instructors at Aqua-Tots are amazing! They care about every single child that takes swim lessons. You can see this with their determination to help every child succeed at the level they are at.
The other day Talie was in one of her lessons and well she does not love jumping in. She likes to sit on the edge and fall in, but it was time for her to do something new because her swim coach knew she could. The whole time her coach was encouraging that she could jump into the water. Yes, Talie tried to sit down and go in that way on several occasions, but Lexi just kept letting her know she could jump in and she did! It was great to see her swim coach encourage her based on what she knew Talie was capable of.
We are so excited that our kids are enrolled in Aqua-Tots Swim Schools not only are they learning to be water safe, but they are learning to be more confident around the water. Aqua-Tots Swim Schools are committed to reaching children worldwide everything they need to know to remain safe in and around the water as early as 4 months old.
Now is the time to reach out to an Aqua-Tots location near you to register your child for swim lessons so they can learn Safety First, Fun Every Second!
