Listening to Podcasts
Podcasts are starting to take over and I’m a huge fan. Hobbies for a stay at home mom can be tough to fit into your schedule, but you could listen to podcasts as you run errands, make dinner, or just hang out at home with your kids!
There are some really fun options out there. You can listen to some helpful posts about motherhood, or you can find one about some of your other interests!
Okay, stick with me here! Running is not only good for you, but it can be lots of fun too!
The reason that I think running makes such a good hobby for moms is that it’s measurable and you can set so many goals for yourself. You could sign up for a race, track your speed, or shoot for a new distance.
Accomplishing things makes you feel so good and take pride in yourself, and running is a great place for accomplishments whether large or small.
Home Renovations or DIY Projects
Do something to improve your home or just something for fun! Build something, refinish something, or try something new.
It feels so good to create something especially if you can show it off and be proud of it! You can also save quite a bit of money learning how to do things yourself instead of buying them brand new.
Handwriting & Calligraphy
Have you ever wanted to improve your writing? Or have you seen those hypnotizing videos on your news feeds where people are skillfully doing beautiful hand lettering?
If you are interested in this, handwriting is a super simple hobby you can do while taking care of your kids! It’s also trending right now so you can find so many resources and books out there to help you get started.
Take up sewing and learn how to make a few simple projects! Or if you already know how to sew, grab a new pattern to make.
You could learn how to make pillows or pjs or other super easy things, even if you’ve never sewn before! Ask a friend to help you get started, or sign up for a local class at a fabric store.

The key to making journaling an enjoyable hobby is finding something that works for you. Be realistic with what you are willing to do and think about what you want to record.
I love having a gratitude journal, writing letters to my kids in a journal, or filling up a journal with ticket stubs, flower petals, and other memories with a quick note. You could even have a journal filled with your marriage updates and things happening in your family.
It’s a great way to preserve memories and easy to do while kids play.
You can make some beautiful things if you choose to do embroidery as your hobby! I’m always so impressed when I see the things that people come up with and how they showcase them.
I also love it when hobbies can translate into simple gifts and such because it makes things so much easier! If you want to get started, pick up a simple kit with a stencil to try it out.
Let me tell you, coloring is not just for kids! Grab an adult coloring book and a nice set of pencils or pens and have fun.

Gardening can take so many forms but you might find yourself being really interested in it!
You could grab a couple of new indoor plants for your home, beautify your yard, or start a small produce garden and see what you can grow! I’d love to have my own set of plants growing delicious fresh foods for my family.
If you don’t know how to get started, check out a book for your library, or look for local courses.
Playing an Instrument
If you already play an instrument, start practicing and working on your skills! If you are brave enough you could even set up a time to play for an audience!
If you don’t play an instrument, learn! Start trying to teach yourself, or find someone who can give you some lessons. Your kids will have so much fun hearing you practice and be so proud of you!

This may not be the right hobby if you have little ones, but if you can find a safe space then puzzling is the way to go!
