I feel like I had so many hobbies when I was a child, or even well into my twenties. Once I became a mother though, all those hobbies seemed to disappear!
I love spending time with my kids! But I also have realized that it’s so important for me to do things I enjoy for myself.
Hobbies for stay at home moms is a huge part of self care for moms and find joy in motherhood! Give yourself a break and do something fun!

Honestly, there’s been many times when I have felt like a mom robot instead of a human being with interests and needs. Anyone else feel like that?
Doing things that you enjoy will help you to rediscover yourself after motherhood again. It’s okay to do things just because it’s fun! (even if you have a million things on your to-do list!)
So make yourself a priority and try one of these fun hobbies! See how much time and energy you can spare and commit to doing something you enjoy every once in a while.

Yoga is the best! It’s good for your health, both mentally and physically, and it is just so relaxing. No one needs relaxation more than moms!
You could either make a plan to join a yoga class at your local fitness center, or you could do yoga right at home! There’s plenty of books to help get you started, or you could follow a video online.
Put those pictures you are always taking to good use and start a scrapbook! You could make an album of family pictures, finally get around to making a baby book, or any other fun idea you can come up with.
Scrapbooking is fun and crafty and creates something that you and your kids can enjoy forever!
Hobbies for a stay at home mom don’t have to be complicated! Sit down with your favorite book or a new one and enjoy some reading time.
If you once loved to read, start again! If you’ve never been interested, try out a new genre or try asking friends for suggestions. If you are interested in books you can definitely find one that you’ll love!

Podcasts are starting to take over and I’m a huge fan. Hobbies for a stay at home mom can be tough to fit into your schedule, but you could listen to podcasts as you run errands, make dinner, or just hang out at home with your kids!
There are some really fun options out there. You can listen to some helpful posts about motherhood, or you can find one about some of your other interests!
Okay, stick with me here! Running is not only good for you, but it can be lots of fun too!
The reason that I think running makes such a good hobby for moms is that it’s measurable and you can set so many goals for yourself. You could sign up for a race, track your speed, or shoot for a new distance.
Accomplishing things makes you feel so good and take pride in yourself, and running is a great place for accomplishments whether large or small.
Home Renovations or DIY Projects
Do something to improve your home or just something for fun! Build something, refinish something, or try something new.
It feels so good to create something especially if you can show it off and be proud of it! You can also save quite a bit of money learning how to do things yourself instead of buying them brand new.
Handwriting & Calligraphy
Have you ever wanted to improve your writing? Or have you seen those hypnotizing videos on your news feeds where people are skillfully doing beautiful hand lettering?
If you are interested in this, handwriting is a super simple hobby you can do while taking care of your kids! It’s also trending right now so you can find so many resources and books out there to help you get started.
Take up sewing and learn how to make a few simple projects! Or if you already know how to sew, grab a new pattern to make.
You could learn how to make pillows or pjs or other super easy things, even if you’ve never sewn before! Ask a friend to help you get started, or sign up for a local class at a fabric store.
Try a new recipe and make something delicious! Baking will really become a hobby for you when you start getting creative and going outside of your comfort zone.
You can make some beautiful treats, or something messy but absolutely delicious. And the great thing about baking is that you can get your kids involved and make it a family activity!
The key to making journaling an enjoyable hobby is finding something that works for you. Be realistic with what you are willing to do and think about what you want to record.
I love having a gratitude journal, writing letters to my kids in a journal, or filling up a journal with ticket stubs, flower petals, and other memories with a quick note. You could even have a journal filled with your marriage updates and things happening in your family.
It’s a great way to preserve memories and easy to do while kids play.
You can make some beautiful things if you choose to do embroidery as your hobby! I’m always so impressed when I see the things that people come up with and how they showcase them.
I also love it when hobbies can translate into simple gifts and such because it makes things so much easier! If you want to get started, pick up a simple kit with a stencil to try it out.
Let me tell you, coloring is not just for kids! Grab an adult coloring book and a nice set of pencils or pens and have fun.
I always find it so relaxing to color, and I love that I can grab some crayons and paper for my kids to color alongside me while we enjoy some special time together.
Gardening can take so many forms but you might find yourself being really interested in it!
You could grab a couple of new indoor plants for your home, beautify your yard, or start a small produce garden and see what you can grow! I’d love to have my own set of plants growing delicious fresh foods for my family.

It may or may not interest you at first to do some couponing, but it can turn out to be so addictive!
You can save so much money by clipping coupons and hunting for good deals. So if that’s something you like doing, give couponing a try!
Food preservation is not only great for emergency preparedness and saving money, but it can be so much fun!
There are so many things that you can preserve or can in different ways that can make for some really yummy treats. Start with some simple strawberry freezer jam and then move on to pickling foods or doing other more intricate recipes!
Check out your local thrift store and see what fun things you can find! This is a good hobby for moms who have kids around because you can always find something interesting at the thrift store.
You could even give them a tiny allowance to grab something to keep them interested while you look around.
Join a Sports Team
Having a team to support you with a new hobby is a great way to keep you engaged and help you prioritize your self-care.
It’s okay to take time away from your home and do something fun and sports is a great option. How fun would it be for your husband and kids to be the ones coming to watch YOUR games?!
This may not be the right hobby if you have little ones, but if you can find a safe space then puzzling is the way to go!
Even if you can’t finish a whole puzzle at one time, you could still do a little each day to help decompress and let your mind go blank from all your mom-duties of the day. If your kids are old enough they could even join you!
