Is it just me, or do you find almost any excuse to make hot chocolate? I absolutely can’t resist so having a homemade hot chocolate mix recipe that I love is a must! 

I’ve got the best slow cooker pumpkin spice hot chocolate recipe, but I needed something a little more simple and this is perfect!

But even thought this recipe for hot chocolate mix is pretty basic, I almost always add some fun ingredients to spice it up! Around the holidays I will add cinnamon or peppermint. My kids love it when I add some marshmallows too!

It’s also the easiest gift during the colder months of the year. You can put a bit of mix in a bag with a candy cane or add it to a decorative jar and add a sweet note. Your friends and family will be begging for the recipe!

Ingredients for Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix 

  • 2 cups instant dry milk
  • 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar

How to Make this Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix Recipe

  • To make your homemade hot chocolate mix, grab a large mixing bowl and sift your powdered sugar into it. 
  • Next, sift in the instant dry milk and the cocoa powder right on top of the powdered sugar. 
  • Whisk powdered sugar, dry milk, and cocoa powder to combine. 
  • Add the granulated sugar and whisk until the mixture is well combined. 
  • Move the hot chocolate mix to your storage container of choice until you are ready to use it!
  • To make hot chocolate from the mix, add ⅓ of the mix to your favorite mug and stir in 1 cup of warm milk.
