One of the best ways to gain confidence starting a new school or school year is to join clubs! Lots of high schools have all kinds of clubs. Usually, they have foreign language clubs, service clubs, friendship clubs, really the sky’s the limit!

In middle school, there might not be as many clubs, but perhaps they have a drama club that works on the school play and things like that! Perhaps join the band or a sports team!

If there are no clubs at your school, start one! Usually, you can go talk to the principal about starting a club and get approval. Then you just need a school staff member to attend your group functions!

Put Your Phone Down!

I know this is a hard one when you are in high school or middle school (it’s sometimes hard for me too), but put your phone down! By putting your phone down, it gives you the ability to have real conversations face to face. This just skyrockets your confidence level when you are able to have conversations with peers, adults, and friends that don’t involve texting on your phone.

Look Your Best!

Find Friends that Have Your Values

When you hit middle school and high school it is important to have good friends! So, it is important to look for friends who have your values! When we find people that have your values then usually these people will be lifelong friends that won’t ever lead you astray.

As a parent, it is important that my kids have good friends. I make a point to know who they are hanging out with and even texting. We have open conversations about their friends and my kids know their friends are always welcome at our home! This allows me the opportunity to get to know their friends better!

Have Fun and Laugh (even at yourself sometimes)

Does your child have the starting school jitters? Well, we have 10 easy tips to help your middle schooler and high schooler feel more confident this year!

I remember one day as a Freshman I was walking by Senior Wall (It was only the coolest wall in the whole school) and I looked over to check out who was over there and spotted someone I had a major crush on, only to run right into someone else! I was mortified inside, but I just chuckled to myself and said, “Hey, how is it going?!” They laughed and we both moved on!

Life is about having fun! It is important to be serious when you need to be, but then have fun when you can! So quickly you will grow up and life with be a little harder than it is right now (even if you don’t think it will be). So, loosen up a bit, have fun and laugh, even if it means laughing at yourself sometimes!

Don’t Dwell on Mistakes

Does your child have the starting school jitters? Well, we have 10 easy tips to help your middle schooler and high schooler feel more confident this year!

Remember that one time when you tried something, and you epically failed? Yeah… I know! I have those all the time, too! But guess what?! Everyone makes mistakes. The most important thing about making mistakes is admitting them, understanding what you want to do better in the future and moving on. Don’t let your mistakes define who you are!

As a parent, it is hard to watch our kids make mistakes, but it is an important stage in their development. So as hard as it is to watch them fail we need to let them so they can grow from it!

The adolescent brain is still developing as your kids are going into middle school and doesn’t fully develop until they graduate High School so they will make some pretty dumb choices at this time. Help them understand what happened, how to overcome it and how to move on from it! The past is the past, so help them move on from it.

Exercise

Exercise helps boost your confidence on a whole new level! Not only will you look great, but you will feel great too! Exercise is great for the body and the mind. When I am suuuuuper stressed in life I love to throw my running shoes on and head out for a jog! It helps clear my mind and just feel at peace with what is happening in life!

Stop Being Your Biggest Critic

Does your child have the starting school jitters? Well, we have 10 easy tips to help your middle schooler and high schooler feel more confident this year!

Middle school and high school are hard! I remember my friends grew faster than me and they matured earlier than me! By the time we hit sophomore year their breakouts were done when mine were just beginning! I felt like everyone was just staring at my three new zits that popped up that morning! On top of that, I always felt like my nose was huge, so I was crazy self-conscious of it!

Guess what though?

Never did anyone ever say, “Wow! Look at her face!” or “my gosh look at her nose!”

So often we dwell on the dumbest things, so just stop because guess what? No one else is looking at them!

Stop being so hard on yourself. We are all our own worst enemies and we can drive ourselves CRAZY coming up with everything you don’t like about yourself, so just stop and embrace you for who you are!

The sooner you can do this you can start living your best life!

Be Prepared

The school year can be very busy. Between school, assignments, extra activities life can feel hectic. So, set yourself up for success! Grab your school supplies early to start the year off on the right track!

Then dedicate time each day to study! Learning time management skills early in life will set you up for success throughout your whole life! Decide now when you will do homework and study, spend time with family and friends, and other extracurricular activities.

Accept Compliments

Is it just me or is it hard for you to accept compliments to? I remember in high school I would get a compliment and I would shy away from it so fast! I just got embarrassed and wanted to hide in a hole! In fact, up until a couple of years ago I would constantly shy away from them, even from my husband! One day he said, “I don’t tell you that you look beautiful just because I feel obligated to tell you… I really do mean it!” From that moment on I have been able to accept compliments so much better because the person paying you the compliment really does mean it!

When someone says good work on something you have worked really hard on, or they love that color on you, say thank you because they really do it mean it!

Be Yourself!

Does your child have the starting school jitters? Well, we have 10 easy tips to help your middle schooler and high schooler feel more confident this year!

The best way to feel more confident entering middle school and high school is to just be yourself! I know sometimes this is easier said than done because you want to fit in so bad, but just embrace who you really are! Don’t try to fit some “mold” that you feel like you have to be to fit in! So let your true self shine! Let people see your funny, nerdy, sporty, quirky self and like you for what makes you so incredibly special because each of us are uniquely special!
