The Best Way To Dye Easter Eggs

This recipe for dying eggs is our favorite because it is easier to contain the mess. The use of plastic cups makes clean-up a sinch! Plus with cups filled with enough liquid to cover an egg, turning eggs can be done less, making spills less likely. We know you will love this method just like we do!? 

Ingredients

  • Boiling water
  • White vinegar
  • Food coloring, liquid or gel
  • Hard boiled eggs, cooled

How To Dye Easter Eggs

  • Bring water to a boil. The amount of water you boil will depend on how many different colors you are using and how many eggs you are dyeing.
  • Fill the number of plastic cups you will be using with enough boiling water to cover an egg.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of white vinegar to each cup and about 20 drops of liquid food coloring or 1-3 drops of gel food coloring.
  • Use tongs to dunk eggs into the desired color of water. Let sit for about 5 minutes, turning occasionally. For more vibrant colors, let eggs sit for longer. 
  • Remove the eggs and place on a paper towel to dry completely.

  • Wear clothes that you don’t mind staining! The mixture of water, vinegar, and food coloring is meant to stain, so make sure everything that you don’t want stained is covered.
  • If you don’t have tongs, consider using a small slotted spoon instead. You can even purchase egg dippers that are meant specifically for dyeing eggs.
  • For perfect, even coloring, turn your eggs often. Do not speed up the process if you’re hoping for even and vibrant colors!
  • For easy peeling, add plenty of salt to the water that you boil your eggs in. This simple and inexpensive trick helps the shells come off so easy!

There are a few easy ways to boil eggs for dying them! You can put them in muffin tins and bake at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes for a simple, no stress option.

My favorite way to boil eggs is the old-fashioned way – right on the stove. This method is simple and fool-proof and results in perfect eggs every time!
