How to Plan a Stress Free Birthday Party For Kids
Children’s birthday parties can be a lot of fun – at least for the children. The grown-ups, however, are usually the ones running around trying to make sure everything gets done. This usually leaves us exhausted by the time the party ends.
But, guess what? It doesn’t always have to be like this! What if I shared with you some tips to make sure that your next birthday party is fun for you too?
Here’s a handful of great ideas on how to make the next birthday party for your kids as straightforward and stress-free! That way, you actually have time to enjoy the party!
First: Learn to relax
The biggest obstacle to relaxing at a kid’s birthday party for grown-ups is themselves. Yes, I said it. We sometimes bring the stress on ourselves! We think everything needs to be perfectly planned and that we need to ensure everyone is having a great time every single second. So just let the kids be kids, sit down, eat some cake, and chat with the other grown-ups as the kids play.
Your task is to be there in case something happens as well as just coordinate when it is time to do different activities. It’s not to herd wild kids like shepherds herding their flocks. If you think it’s more fun to run after the kids rather than sit and relax as you watch them play, then go at it! But you should be running after them because you want to and not because you have too.
Give up some control
If you want to have a stress free birthday party, give up some of the control! Let your child be in charge. Work together prior to the big day on what the birthday child wants to do. Practice having them explain the games. On the day of the big day, let your child be in charge of running the games.
As you are planning a stress free birthday party, let your child decide on the theme. Take them to the party store or look online for party theme ideas. When it comes to what your child wants to wear let them pick their clothes. If you have a certain idea in mind you can always give them the illusion of having a choice by telling them to choose between the floral bow tie and the purple tie.
Giving up some control and allowing your kid to decide parts of the birthday party is a great way to teach about responsibility. Let them know that this is their party and they’re the host. I guarantee your child will love this role! So sit and eat that cake and actually enjoy it too!
When it comes to inviting guests consider keeping the invite list to a handful of kids. I know your child would love to invite the whole kindergarten or every person they have ever met, but sometimes smaller is better! Have your kids make a list of their very best friends and then go from there! If they are sad they can’t invite everyone they have ever met to their birthday party then maybe reconsider letting them invite more people to their party. After all, you don’t have to worry about planning another one in a whole year. And we can just hope not EVERY SINGLE person they invite comes if it is everyone they have ever met. 🙂
With these tips, you will be well on your way to a stress free birthday party!
