The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting cooler which can only mean one thing, fall is finally here! We don’t want to think about it, but that means will be coming soon as well! This means harsher outdoor conditions and more time spent indoors. Naturally, we will be using more energy to heat our homes as well as use more electricity with the shorter days. Because we will be spending time in the house during the winter it is important to prepare your home for winter as best we can. Here are 5 things you can do to prepare your home for winter right now!
Secure the doors and windows
Since the air outside is much cooler than inside we want to make sure that we secure the doors and windows. If they are not secure there can be gaps in the door or window frames. This causes cool air to come into your home. If this happens you will spend a lot more on heating the home to combat the breeze coming through.
We also want to secure the doors and windows with good locks. With it being darker robbers are more likely to pray on houses that are empty before you come home from work.
Insulate the home
Another way to prepare your home for winter is by adding insulation. If you haven’t already got insulation in your home, now is the ideal time to do it. When you add insulation to the home it acts as an effective barrier to ward off the cold weather outside and keep the heat inside. You can choose to insulate the walls, the floors, the ceilings, and even the roof. Insulating your home will make a big difference in the temperature of the house as well as your pocketbook this winter!
Redo the roof
Now is a great time to check on the roof. You want to make sure it is strong and secure with no leaks. If you have a small leak now it can turn into a big problem. Especially with the amount of rain and snow some of us get. By investing in roofing now it will save you a lot of money this winter. So, schedule an appointment today to ensure your home is ready for the winter.
Check your boiler health
Imagine the scene: it’s a cold winter night and you are all in front of the TV watching a festive movie. Suddenly a storm starts to hit and the power goes out. On top of that, the boiler packs in and you are left with no hot water and no way to heat up the house. The worst thing that can happen to us in winter is issues with our boiler, and if it goes it can mean a few days of serious suffering without hot water for showers. Make sure you get a boiler check done now to ensure your boiler is healthy for the winter period.
Make it cozy
Winter is the perfect time to snuggle up with a good blanket and get cozy! So prepare your home for winter by buying some extra blankets, so hot chocolate and candles! Buy some thicker sheets and settle into a home that is warm and cozy!
