How to Get Kids to Eat Healthier: 4 Simple Steps!
Getting your child to eat healthy and excited to eat healthier can be a challenge. We all know all too well that kids go through phases of only liking certain foods or refusing to eat other things that they used to like. It is totally normal for children to exercise independence through their food choices. If you are looking for ways to get your kids to eat healthier we are sharing some expert tips to get your kids to eat healthier and what is prepared.
How to Get Kids to Eat Healthier
With how often kids refuse to eat, it is so important to make sure to give them nutritious options. In our home, we always choose Oroweat Organic White Made with Whole Wheat Bread. We use this to make toast in the morning for breakfast and sandwiches at lunch. Depending on where you live you may find the same great-tasting sustainable product under the Brownberry or Arnold brands.
We love that it has:
- No artificial preservatives, colors or flavors.
- No high fructose corn syrup.
- Good source of Vitamins A, D, and E.
- Whole Grain is the first ingredient.
- Plant based
- USDA organic
- Non-GMO Project Verified
- Full of Nutrients and flavor
We also love their policy on Sustainability:
- Baked with renewable wind energy
- Member of 1% of the planet (meaning they donate 1% of all revenue to environmental causes)
- Hold themselves to the highest standards
- Give back in the communities
How to encourage your kids to eat healthier
Give them choices
Children like to be independent and make their own choices. That is why giving them choices as to what to eat is key. When you give them choices give them two nutritious options so they are choosing between nutritious options but making their own decision.
Some sandwich ideas could be:
- Peanut butter with fresh fruit
- Turkey
- Tuna
- Chicken
- Grilled Cheese
Let them help
Kids love helping, especially younger kids. Talie is always begging to help me in the kitchen. When it comes to making their lunch or another meal, invite them into the kitchen. Give them kid-safe knives and other kitchen items as needed so they can help you prepare.
As they help make they might feel inspired to try something new and be more motivated to eat what they create.
This also teaches great life skills at a very young age.
Make it fun!
There are so many different ways to make your kid’s plates super fun to encourage them to eat more! You can create a rainbow on their plate using veggies and fruits. My kids’ favorite is when I cut their sandwiches into fun shapes and sizes.
Often I will take their sandwich made on Oroweat Organic White Made with Whole Wheat Bread and cut it in half or thirds or in 4 squares for them to enjoy. The kids’ personal favorite is when we use cookie cutters to shape their food.
Simple things like this can really inspire them to want to eat more!
Sit with them!
Life is busy, but sit with your kids and eat with them. By doing this it encourages them to stay at the table and eat more. If we aren’t there it is very easy for them to slip away from the table and run off to play with toys again.
With these easy steps, you can help your kids eat healthy when it comes to their food choices.
