  • To make your mermaid cake topper pieces, start by preparing a baking sheet with parchment paper. Grab your silicone mold and have it ready.
  • Melt the candy wafers according to the package’s directions, making sure to heat them slowly.
  • Fill a piping bag with the melted chocolate and cut the tip of the bag.
  • Pipe the chocolate into the mold and give it a few shakes to make sure there are no air bubbles.
  • Let the chocolate sit at room temperature or in the fridge for 20-30 minutes or until it’s completely set.
  • When they have set, pop the tails out onto the lined baking sheet and set them aside until you’re ready to use them.

Tips Tricks and FAQs

  • If you don’t have piping bags sitting around, you can use plastic storage bags instead! Just pour the chocolate into a quart or gallon-sized bag and snip a corner of it just like you would with a tip of the piping bag.
  • You can use just about any color candy melts for these tails, and even mix colors together! If you want to do a multicolored tail, just use multiple bags of colored chocolate and pipe them in your desired pattern into the mold. If you want a more ombre or swirled effect, you can use a toothpick to swirl the chocolate before it sets.
  • If you want a shiny glimmering look for your mermaid tails, you can grab some luster dust and brush it on the dried tails. It’s a tiny detail that takes almost no effort, but it makes your mermaid cake topper chocolates look extra magical!

Storage

You’ll want to store your cake toppers in the fridge or other cool place to keep them from melting. In an airtight container, they should last up to about one month!
