Tips Tricks and FAQs
- I have a pretty great cupcake recipe, but you don’t have to make your own cupcakes if you want this recipe to be even simpler. Just call your local bakery and order some cupcakes with no frosting and you’ll get a great bakery flavor without having to do any work!
- Any frosting will work with this recipe, but you will probably want to choose a frosting that is thick enough to hold up the piping shape. If the frosting is too thin, you will just get a droopy mess all over your cupcakes which is not what you’re going for!
- If you are nervous about piping or don’t have much experience, do a little practice on a piece of parchment or a plastic bag! It’s a pretty simple decoration but doing a practice or two will help you feel more comfortable and confident as you decorate.
Storage
Store your cupcakes in an airtight container or covered with plastic wrap in the fridge for up to 4 days or on the counter for up to 24 hours. If you prefer to eat them at room temperature, take them out of the fridge 30 minutes before eating.
How to Color Frosting For Monster Cupcakes
You definitely want to have monsters that look bright, vibrant and fun and not pale and boring. So you’ll need a great food coloring!
If you are coloring the frosting yourself, I’d recommend using gel food coloring so that you can get more pigment without thinning out the frosting. I grabbed a big set of Wilton gel food colors a while back and it has lasted so long and always gets a perfect bold color.
