The Quality Time Love Language
I’m a textbook quality time love language kind of girl! With my kids, my spouse, my friends, or whoever I have a relationship with, there’s nothing more important to me than spending time together!
But it’s taken me a while to realize that not everyone is like that! Everyone wants to spend time with people that they love, but not everyone values time over affirmations, gifts, service, or touch.
That’s where the 5 love languages come in!
The 5 Love Languages
Love languages are a breakdown of all those different ways that we give and receive love in our relationships!
There are five love languages that you might relate to. They are quality time, acts of service, words of affirmation, gift-giving and receiving, and physical touch.
The average person enjoys many different expressions of love in their relationships, but there are likely one or two love languages that you prefer when connecting with someone.
And since we all have a different love language, navigating relationships with different dynamics can get a little tricky!
Quality Time Love Language
So what is quality time?
Quality time might be one of the most common love languages, or at the least, the most commonly talked about!
Time spent with people you love is really important. Time helps you learn about each other, improve your communication, and strengthen bonds.
And though the extrovert in me would love to spend tons of time with my friends and family, quality time isn’t about how much time you spend together. It’s all about HOW you spend that time together.
If your love language is quality time, then how you spend that time together is probably super important to you!
How to Show Love To Someone With a Quality Time Love Language
Showing love to someone whose love language is quality time is really just about being aware of your time together. It may not feel natural at first if you have a different love language, but a great start is just paying attention to where you focus is when you are together.
Are you showing them that you want to be there? Are you listening to them? Are you avoiding distractions? These are all good questions to ask!
They also may mention to you that they are missing you or needing some extra time.
Take this seriously! If they are asking you for more quality time, chances are that they really need it to feel more connected to you.
If you are the one who has a quality time love language, here are a few tips that can help you meet your needs in relationships:
- Schedule time. Make sure that your routine includes some built-in time together. If it’s a priority for you, move things around so that it fits in your schedule!
- Take something off their list. If the other person is pretty busy, try to take something off their plate. They’ll appreciate the gesture, and you’ll have more time to spend together!
- Make your needs known. Tell your loved ones that you need time together! Especially if they have a different love language, they may not know that you need some more quality time.
