So This is What Growing Up Looks Like

I always knew my kids would grow up… Everyone always says, “Watch out, your kids will grow up so fast!” Today I realized what growing up looks like!

Watching our kids grow up is hard... It might be harder on us than them. Today I realized just what growing up looks like on the other end

Life UnEdited #27

Today was a big day in our house… High School schedule pick up day! I arranged for Colby and me to just go so he didn’t get embarrassed hauling his little sister and brother into the high school.

On the way there Colby looked at me and said, “ Mom, you can just sit in the car while I go in. He then goes on to tell me that it’s going to be hot and crowded in the cafeteria. He then follows it up with, “And I don’t want you to get lost!”

Laughing I said, “ I’m sure it’s cooler inside and I am pretty sure I won’t get lost.”

He sat there for a minute and then he said, “ It’s okay mom. There probably won’t be any parking spots so you’ll just have to drive around.”

At that moment I got it… He didn’t want me to go into the high school with him.

Everyone always says, "Your kids will Grow Up so Fast..." Today I realized just what growing up looks like!

So here I sit. In the car, while Colby picks up his schedule for high school. By myself. Realizing all too clear that my son who I still see as a little boy no longer needs me like he once did. He is growing up before my very eyes. And for that matter way too quickly for my liking.

Colby is ready to conquer hard things and be independent.

So here I sit realizing this is what growing up looks like. It means watching our kids from a distance as they spread their wings and begin to fly. It also means being there to celebrate their victories and to pick them up when they need you most.

Watching your kids grow up allows us to treasure, even more, all the time we have together. And all the memories we have shared over the years. The Sonic Runs for Slushies. The late night games of Hearts, even if I was so tired I could barely keep my eyes open. These are the things they will remember and that we will always remember.

Watching your kids grow up is hard! Harder than I ever thought it would be.

So This is what Growing up looks like

So… This is what having our kids growing up feels like. It is a mix of happiness with lots of sadness all at the same time.

With that Colby, I leave you with what I hope you always remember!

It Stinks you realize that your kids are growing up... So This is What Growing up looks like

I hope you know watching you grow up is hard! But I want you to know that I am so proud of you! I hope you will always dream big and work hard! Colby, I want you to never give up on your dreams no matter how many times you stumble! Don’t ever give up on the things you want! I want you to know that no matter what I will always be there for you! I will cheer you on every step of the way. As you accomplish great things I will be your biggest cheerleader. But more importantly, I will always be there when you fall! I will help you stand up and give you an extra push to help you get going again. When you need a shoulder to cry on, mine will always be ready for you! Colby, I want you to know that no matter what I will always love you!

Whooooo this got me teary-eyed!!! My oldest only started 3rd grade this year, but he told me he didn’t want us to walk him into school this year because it was embarrassing. It’s amazing how quickly time flies, while in the moment it seems to drag. Thank you for sharing this with us. It was beautifully written. I hope that he has a great school year!

Thanks! It was sad. Yes! It makes me realize how quickly the time goes. The days may be long but the days are short. Enjoy the time! 🙂

Yes, I know. Mine are 13 and 10, and I just saw the neighbor’s 5 day old baby. 😊

Hahaha! I’m sure they will! You just don’t realize how quickly those years pass by when you are in the midst of the little years. It’s so bittersweet to watch children grow up.
