What Does it Mean to ‘Do Your Best’ for Your Kids?

What does it actually mean to do your best for your kids? We have 5 ways that you as a parent can do your best for your kids.

Every parent would say that they want to do their best for their children. But what does that actually mean, “Do Your Best” for your kids? I think it has a lot to do with being the best parent you can for your kids? But, how do we do this?

Here are 5 ways Yiu can Do Your Best when it comes to parenting your kids.

Putting Your Kids First, or a Close Second

I say this with a little hesitance… Because you should always put your spouse first, But when I saw put your kids first it is in reference to everything after your spouse. Putting your kids first is part of being a good parent. But it’s not always as easy and obvious as it might sound. Life can be complicated and messy. At times, there are lots of priorities that you need to juggle at the same time. However, always look at things from their perspective before you make any major life decisions.

Encouraging Kids to Be Independent

It’s easy as a parent to smother your child with attention. Sometimes a little too much!  This might sound crazy, but sometimes if you allow your child to be too dependent on you it can be harmful to their growth. They won’t have the chance to learn the importance of independence.  And this has to develop away from the constant hand-holding we as parents like to do. We owe it to our kids to let them go off and explore and make mistakes!

Offering Kids All Kinds of Opportunities

Because your child is their own person they are apt to want to pursue things they love. You can’t force them to be a doctor or study abroad. These are choices they will need to make on their own. But you can offer them the best opportunities that will help them to learn more about themselves, their interests and their talents. From there, they’ll be able to know what they want to do and where they want to go in life.

Parent Together With Your Partner

Parenting is a two person job! It is important that you parent together with your spouse or ex, whatever the situation may be. Since you both want what is best for your child, work together to give your child your best. This isn’t always easy but it should always be your aim, even when times are tough. For example, when parents separate, you need an orderly divorce with the help of legal firms like Plog & Stein P.C. This way, you can avoid conflict and carry on parenting as a team, which is best for your child.

Don’t Pile on the Pressure

Finally, you need to remember that external pressure to succeed is not going to help. And in many cases, it can be negative because it causes them stress. Which is not what they need at all. So be careful not to pile on the pressure too much and make them feel stressed out about things. Certainly, encourage them! But beware of the difference between encouraging and added pressure they don’t need.

Every parent wants to do their best for their kids, but it’s about moving beyond those cliches and actually taking the right steps in the right direction. All of the things mentioned here are important for parents to get right. So let’s all be better parents together and give our kids our very best we can give.

  1. Putting kids first when they’re infants, yes. When they’re tweens? No. It’s a journey really, and some kids need more hands on for longer than others.

I’m now at a stage where I put me first, then the family. Because the opposite way caused me to become unhealthy. Self-care is crucial…and I neglected that for too long. But, it’s usually best when the family unit is about mutual respect. Kids are quick learners under guidance and time modeling…

Either way, it’s not an easy journey.😶😊
