5 Ways to Drink More Water
Getting to get your kids to drink more water is a struggle that most parents have with their kids. It is hard to get kids to understand why water is important and to remember to drink more of it, especially with school starting again.
One of my kids’ common excuses as to why they don’t drink enough water is they just don’t have time. They say they are always waiting to get a drink at the water fountain when it is time to go to class, so they say, “Mom do you want me to hydrate or be late?” Teenagers! 🙂
So we are sharing these 5 easy ways to help your kids drink more water every day.
Buy an In-Home Water Dispenser
One of the best ways we have gotten our kids to drink more water is by buying a Primo in-home water dispenser.
By doing this it has encouraged our kids to drink more because they love the independence of being able to go over to the in-home dispenser and fill their cup or water bottle.
We love how Primo water is purified water that just tastes better because it undergoes a purification process that uses a series of filters to make the water taste great!
We drink so much more water after purchasing our Primo water dispenser because what kid doesn’t love filling their cup up?
When our Primo 5-gallon water bottle is empty, it is so easy and convenient to fill up! We simply look up online where the nearest Primo water station is and visit their indoor or outdoor self serve refill location and refill our Primo bottle.
Ours happens to be just up the street at our neighborhood Kroger, but these locations are all over the place. Some of these are still called Glacier Water, but don’t worry because Glacier and Primo are one!
Pro Tip when exchanging water: If you are trying to convert your exchange bottle to a refill bottle, it is best if you order a non-spill cap from Primo from their website for easier transport.
When shopping for the right Primo water dispenser for your family, there are several things to consider when picking which one is best for your home.
Are you looking for a dispenser that gives you hot and cold options? If so, you want to make sure there is a lock to keep a child from burning themselves. This is a favorite feature. I don’t have to worry about this happening.
Are you looking for one that has a pet dispensing station?
You should also consider where you are putting your water dispenser and take a look at all the options!
You will definitely find one that fits your lifestyle perfectly.
Check out the Primo Store and find your perfect fit for you.
Setting Up Your Primo Water Dispenser
Setting up your in-home water dispenser is easy.
You fill your refill bottle at a Primo water station.
You bring it home, remove the cap, then you stick the probe into the bottle.
Press this firmly onto the bottle.
After the probe is in, slide the bottle into your dispenser.
Then, dispense and dispose of at least 1 quart of water from both the warm and cold water spouts.
In 1 hour you will have fully chilled water and in 12 minutes, you’ll have hot water!
It’s super simple to set up!
Send Water with Your Kids to School and Sports
Sending water with your kids to school and sports help them drink more water. This helps them drink more water because they are no longer searching for a water fountain or waiting in line for a drink at the fountain during sports breaks.
At the beginning of the school year, each of the kids gets to pick a water bottle of their choice. Talie, of course, went with unicorns, Tony picked sharks, and the boys picked solid colors.
- This then becomes their water bottle that they fill up every morning at our Primo hTRIO Bottom Loading Water Dispenser with Single Serve Coffee K-cup® Machine Built-In.
By the end of most days, they have drunk all their water while they are at school and are ready for a refill by the time they get home.
The kids do the same thing when heading off to sports. Grab their water bottle, go to the in-home water dispenser, fill and go!
Not only is this super easy for them to do, but each time we refill our 5-gallon Primo bottle we are saving 1,100 single-use bottles from the landfill or ending up the ocean.
I love this small simple way we are helping the Earth!
Drink Water at Dinner
Another way to encourage kids to drink more water is to always serve water with dinner!
Our kids trade off jobs around the house and one of them is to set the table. It used to be one of the dreaded jobs, but since getting our Primo water dispenser they actually fight over who gets to set the table now!
Having the Primo water dispenser has made it so easy to let all the kids, even Tony who is 2, help fill water glasses!
As we eat, if you need more water you get to go and get it… So you can imagine how much water the kids drink so they can visit the water dispenser over and over again, especially on those nights that they don’t really love dinner.
Experiment with Different Flavors
Experimenting with different flavored waters helps everyone consume more water – even adults! Adding different varieties of fruits, vegetables and herbs is a great way to get kids to drink water.
Adding these fresh ingredients changes the flavor of the water, but yet still provides all the nutrients!
A great way to allow your kids to experiment with different flavor waters is to have fruits and vegetables and herbs cut up and on hand so that they can try different flavor combinations.
Have contests as to who can discover the best flavor.
Some of our flavored water favorites are:
- Add lime, lemon, and orange, and mint to the water
- Add cucumber and basil to your water
- Add watermelon
- Add strawberries and oranges
- Adding raspberries gives it an awesome pop of flavor too!
What combination will your family love?
Explain Why is Water Good for You
Knowledge is power and kids love to learn! So help them understand why water is good for them!
Now that school is back in session and kids are busy, they are drinking less water, so now is the time to educate them on why water is important!
Teach your kids that water is important for their developing brains and bodies. Explain to them that as they drink more water they are less likely to be constipated and have digestive issues and can maintain the correct body temperature to always be ready to go out and play!
By teaching them this and setting them up for success my kids are more apt to drink more water every day so they are always ready to go out and play!
