Tips Tricks and FAQs
- To chop your apples, you’ll want to core your apple, peel it, and cut it in half. You can choose to keep the peels on, but my family prefers this apple cobbler recipe without. Cut each half of your apple into ½ inch slices and then turn in 90 degrees and chop the slices into bite-sized chunks.
- You’ll want to make sure that the cobbler dough on top stays on top of the apple mixture and doesn’t get mixed in. I know it may be tempting to mess with your spoonfuls and spread it all around, but the more you touch it the less yummy cobbler you will have on top once it’s baked! Instead, just try to take small spoonfuls and drop them as evenly as you can.
- Something I love doing is making little individual apple cobblers for dinner parties, holidays, and other special occasions. I grabbed some little tart dishes a few years ago and now I use them constantly. For this apple cobbler recipe, I portion out the apple mixture into a few tart dishes and then split up the cobbler dough on top. I bake them for 7-8 minutes at 425 degrees and about 15 minutes at 350 degrees. Delicious and gorgeous!
- Toast your pecans! Whenever you use nuts in recipes they will bring the best flavor if you toast them before you add them in. Turn your oven to 350 degrees and bake the nuts on a parchment lined baking sheet for 10 minutes.
Which apples are best for cobbler?
You can use any apple variety, but I usually use Gala apples for this recipe! You will want to choose an apple that is more tart and firm because once baked they will have a better texture and flavor.
Some other favorites for cobbler are Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Golden delicious, or even Pink Lady apples.
Storage
Cover your cobbler with a lid or plastic wrap and place it in the fridge for up to 4-5 days! Reheat in the oven or microwave when you are ready to enjoy it again.
