Don’t forget to download the full printable recipe below so you can print it out and use it whenever you feel like making this delicious recipe!
- First, preheat your oven to 425 degrees and prepare a donut pan with nonstick cooking spray. Set the pans aside.
- In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until combined.
- In a larger bowl, add the oil and butter and whisk them until smooth.
- Slowly add the sugar, vanilla, and eggs to the butter mixture and continue whisking until well combined.
- Alternate adding the milk and the dry ingredients into the large mixing bowl, gently mixing until just combined.
- Add the batter to a large Ziploc bag or piping bag and cut the corner of the bag large enough to pipe into the donut pans.
- Pipe the batter into the prepared pans, filling it ⅔ of the way full.
- Bake the donuts in the preheated oven for 8 minutes or until the tops of the donuts are slightly golden.
- Let the donuts cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then remove them to a wire rack.
- While the donuts cool, you can make your salted caramel. First, add the sugar to a saucepan over medium heat.
- Continually stirring, cook the sugar until it turns a dark amber color and begins to liquefy.
- When the caramel starts to liquefy, remove the pan from the heat and add in the butter. Stir until melted and combined.
- Slowly add the cream and the salt and stir until the caramel is smooth and combined.
- Transfer the caramel sauce into a heat-safe bowl to cool fully.
- Next, you can make a quick ganache by heating your cream in a saucepan just until it begins to simmer.
- When it begins to simmer, quickly remove it from the heat, add in the chocolate, and cover the pan with a lid.
- Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes.
- Remove the lid from the pan and stir the mixture until it’s smooth and shiny. Set it aside to cool and thicken.
- Now it’s time to assemble! Dip each donut in the ganache and place them on a wire rack.
- Chill the donuts for 15 minutes in the fridge.
- Remove the donuts from the fridge and dip the donut again in the salted caramel.
- While the donuts are freshly dipped, sprinkle the salted peanuts right on top and enjoy!
Tips Tricks and FAQs
- Don’t worry if your ganache seems thin when you first begin to mix. As it sits, it will thicken plenty! Just give it some time to cool and it should get to the perfect consistency to dip your donuts in. If after sitting it still hasn’t set, you can speed up the process by putting it in the fridge for 5-10 minutes.
- You don’t want to rush perfection, and these snickers donuts are surely perfect if you take your time! Make sure that everything is completely cooled and set before trying to assemble. If you try to dip, pipe, and sprinkle before the caramel, donuts, and ganache are set you will end up with a sloppy mess. If you need to cool things quicker, you can place them in the fridge for a few minutes or make the toppings the night before.
- Making your own salted peanuts will take these snickers donuts to the next level! All you need to do is grab some raw peanuts and place them on a baking sheet. Bake the nuts at 375 degrees for about 10 minutes or until they start to get a little color and nutty aroma. Remove the nuts from the oven and sprinkle them with your favorite salt. These nuts are addicting so make sure that you make extra to snack on!
Storage
Store these donuts in the fridge for up to 3-4 days or on the counter for up to 2 days. Keep them in an airtight container to keep them fresh!
Can you make these donuts nut-free?
While I’m partial to the nutty flavor of these donuts, you can absolutely make these nut-free if you need to.
Just simply omit the nuts on top. You won’t exactly have a snickers donut, but you will have a delicious chocolate and caramel bite that is just as delicious!
