Tips Tricks and FAQs

  • Smash carefully! You want to be able to smash them down while still keeping the potato in one piece. It really helps if the potatoes are completely cooked, so make sure they are very tender before you put them on the baking sheet.
  • You can use other varieties of potatoes, but yellow baby potatoes are my favorite! They bake so well and get crispy on the outside but soft and almost creamy on the inside. You can also use red potatoes but you’ll want to make sure that they are small so you don’t affect the baking times.
  • I usually add a generous bit of salt to the water before boiling my potatoes. Salt is a huge flavor-booster and when you add enough to your water it makes a huge difference in the final flavor of your loaded smashed potatoes.

Storage

Store your potatoes in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, preheat your oven to 375 degrees and bake for 10 minutes or until warm.
