My Favorite Chocolate Peppermint Pie

Pumpkin pie, apple pie, and other pies have their place, but in my opinion, nothing compares to my Chocolate Peppermint Pie!

In fact, I brag all fall long about my incredible pumpkin pie spice, but still, I can’t help getting impatient for Winter so I can start whipping up this creamy Christmas-y peppermint pie.

Chocolate peppermint pie is like a chocolate cream pie but with a smooth peppermint chocolate chip layer that is perfect for the holidays.

It’s also far easier to make than any other pie! You’ll have to let the layers set, but for me, that’s a bonus because it means I can get it ready the night before an event and just top it off with some peppermint candy right before I need it.

And did I mention there is absolutely no baking involved? That’s right! You don’t want to miss this yummy peppermint pie!

Tips Tricks and FAQs

  • Make sure your cream cheese is totally softened before trying to make your peppermint layer! If it is still cold, you will end up with cream cheese clumps in your peppermint layer instead of the smooth and silky filling you want. I usually grab it out of the fridge when I put the first layer in the freezer and it’s the perfect temperature.
  • The best way I have found to smooth out each layer in this pie is using an offset spatula, like one you would see for icing cakes. It’s so much easier than any other tool that I have and makes the layers so even and smooth.
  • Whenever you are making whipped cream, the key is to start with a chilled bowl! Place your bowl in the fridge or freezer for a few minutes before you begin to mix and you will see a big difference in how the beautiful soft peaks begin to form.

Do I have to use clear vanilla instead of regular vanilla extract?

As far as flavor goes, it won’t make much of a difference if you want to use regular vanilla versus a clear vanilla extract.

But if you want crisp white distinct layers of peppermint and cream in your pie, then the clear extract is the way to go!

Storage

Store this pie in the fridge in a covered container for up to 4-5 days. You can freeze this pie but I wouldn’t recommend freezing your Chocolate Peppermint Pie for more than 1 month because of the high dairy content in the pie.
