Tips Tricks and FAQs

  • If you want an extra decadent cup of hot cocoa, try adding ½ cup of heavy cream and ½ cup of milk instead of the milk alone. It’ll add some body and extra creaminess that is absolutely irresistible.
  • If you’re entertaining and wanting to use this recipe, try dipping a marshmallow in chocolate and crushed candy canes for the cutest garnish for your peppermint hot chocolate. It’ll be sure to impress and add some great flavor too!
  • If you’re making a big batch, try making this in your slow cooker! Add all the ingredients into your slow cooker, multiplying the recipe by however much you need. Put the slow cooker on low for a couple of hours and let the smell of delicious peppermint cocoa warm up your house!

Can you substitute peppermint oil for peppermint extract?

You can substitute peppermint oil if that’s what you have on hand or what you prefer, but you are going to want to use a lot less!

Peppermint oil is super concentrated. It’s got a really great flavor but it’s so strong so you have to be careful when you are adding it to anything, especially a small cup of hot chocolate.

Instead of using an eighth of a teaspoon, try just a few drops of peppermint oil and give it a taste before adding any more.

Storage

Fridge

It’s not likely that you’ll be able to resist drinking the whole cup of hot chocolate, but if you do happen to have any left over that you want to save you can put it in the fridge!

Keep it in an airtight container and you can keep it in your fridge for about 4-5 days. When you want to finish it, simply heat it back up to your desired temperature and it’s ready to enjoy again!
