- To make your taco bake, first, preheat your oven to 375 degrees.
- Next, unroll the crescent roll dough and gently press the entire rectangular sheet over a 10-inch pie pan to create a crust. Trim the edges if necessary and set the crust aside.
- Place a medium skillet over medium heat and add in the ground beef.
- Cook the beef while stirring occasionally until it’s cooked through and browned.
- Add in the salsa and taco seasoning to the beef and mix well.
- Let the mixture simmer for about 3-4 minutes, then turn off the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly for a few minutes.
- Spoon the beef mixture carefully into the prepared pie pan and spread evenly in the crust.
- Sprinkle the top with the cheddar cheese until it’s covered well.
- Bake the taco bake in the preheated oven for about 15-17 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- To serve, slice the taco bake like a pie and top with sour cream, salsa, avocado, lettuce, or tomato.
Tips Tricks and FAQs
- I know, you never hear to avoid greasing your pan, right? But with this recipe, you are definitely going to want to leave your pie pan grease-free when you fill it up. There is plenty of fat in the rolls and beef you won’t need to worry about it sticking!
- If you go with a more fatty blend of ground beef, you’ll probably want to drain some of that liquid out of it before adding in the salsa and seasonings. You don’t want that extra liquid to make your taco bake soupy! I like to put a paper towel in a heat-safe bowl and pour the whole skillet full of beef and drippings into it. The paper towel should let the grease drain through but catch the beef so you can put it back in your pan.
- Here’s a tip I wish someone had told me a long time ago! Any time you have any extra dough, give it to your kids to play with while you make dinner! Not only will they leave you in peace while you cook, but they also feel like a part of the process which means better eating and a confidence boost. I like to give my kids the scraps of dough with a little rolling pin and a cookie cutter and let them bake them up when they are done. Get ready to be the mom of the year in your house!
Storage
Store your taco bake in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4-5 days. I highly recommend grabbing a pie pan storage container to make storing leftovers so much easier!
