Why Play Trivia Game with the Kids?

I’m all about some friendly rivalry, especially when it’s paired with brainy fun like trivia—count me in!

As a parent navigating how to raise well-rounded kids. I want to instill in them the concept of healthy competition. It’s not always about the thrill of victory or the agony of defeat (dramatic, I know). When my kids are in the competitive zone, they’re not just vying for bragging rights at the dinner table but learning invaluable life skills. They gain confidence in their own judgment, learn how to work as a team and discover the art of losing with style.

Now, let’s talk trivia—it’s my parental cheat code for education on the sly. Let’s be real; sometimes, it’s like pulling teeth to get kids amped about traditional learning.

But trivia? That’s a different ball game. You can tailor it to their interests like sports trivia, history trivia, or our personal family favorite—Christmas carol trivia!

What’s not to love about guessing which carol includes “Parson Brown” or where you’d be dashing through in a one-horse open sleigh?

So, yes, trivia games offer so many benefits, wrapped up in a package of laughter, family bonding, and spirited debate. And when it comes to Christmas carol trivia, let’s just say it adds an extra sprinkle of festive magic that not only educates but also unites us in joyful harmony—literally!

How to Play Christmas Carol Trivia

Whether you’re a trivia newbie or an aspiring Jeopardy! contestant, here’s how to get your trivia game on:

What You’ll Need

  1. Questions and Answers: You can find the trivia question cards below that you can download, print, and start playing with.
  2. Players: At least two, but the more the merrier! Divide into equal teams. Not jsut size but ability as well.
  3. Answer Sheets or Buzzers: Depending on how formal you want to get or how you are going to play. Each team will either be the fastest to buzz in or write down the answer and get a point for each correct answer.
  4. Host/Master of Ceremonies: Someone needs to read the questions and keep track of time and scores.
  5. Timer: You can use a smartphone for this or a timer from another game that you have.
  6. Prizes: Optional, but let’s be real, who doesn’t love a good prize? My favorite prize is always dessert!

Steps to Play

  1. Gather your players around, divide them into teams if necessary, and distribute answer sheets or buzzers.
  2. Explain the rules clearly. This usually involves how answers should be provided (shouted, written down, buzzed in), how much time everyone has to answer, and how points are scored.
  3. : The host reads a question from the chosen category.
  4. Players or teams write down their answers or buzz in to answer. Use a timer to add some extra adrenaline to the mix.
  5. Once all answers are in or time is up, the host reveals the correct answer. Points are then awarded.
  6. Continue steps 3-5 until you’ve gone through all your questions or until a team reaches a certain total that is determined before play starts.
  7. Tally up the points to see who reigns as the trivia champ!
  8. : Hand out any prizes, accolades, or just high-fives all around.
  9. The winners get bragging rights until the next game, and maybe even a funky dance move or two.
