How to Play New Year’s Bingo

New Year’s Bingo is such a versatile game. You can play it with young kids, teenagers, and even adults. New Year’s Bingo can also be played at home, at school, at church, or at parties. The rules are so simple and easy to follow.

After you download and print out the New Year’s Bingo printable,  give everyone a New Year’s Bingo card. There are 6 different cards included in this free printable. Make sure those sitting next to each other have different cards.

The last page of the printable has all the calling cards! These cards need to be cut out and shuffled so that they can be picked one by one as players mark off the pictures on their cards! You can choose to keep the cards in a pile or you can put them in a bowl or basket to pick out of. Usually we will have a “caller” but if not, we each take turns picking a card!

After everyone has their New Year’s bingo card, give them something to cover their squares with. You could use candy, bits of confetti, chips, small toys, whatever you want! For more fun ideas for markers check out the tips section!

Before you begin, be sure to put a marker on your “Free Space!”

Then, use the calling card pile to draw one card at a time. After a calling card is drawn everyone must find where the corresponding picture is on their New Year’s bingo cards and cover it up with a marker.

Once you fill up a row of 5 horizontally, vertically, or diagonally you have to yell out “BINGO!” The first person to yell bingo wins!

Fun Tips for New Year’s Bingo

Like I mentioned before, New Year’s bingo is special because it’s such a versatile game. You can play it with a variety of people or in a variety of places. I love how the anticipation grows after each card is called. My kids are practically shaking when they are close to getting Bingo!

To keep things exciting for as long as you want to play, I’ve gathered a few of the best tips and tricks for New Year’s Bingo!

Print on card stock or Laminate

If you are going to play multiple rounds with different people, I highly suggest printing your New Year’s bingo on cardstock! The thicker paper will keep your cards from getting bent or damage which means you can get so much more use out of them!

If you are like my family and want to make this a yearly tradition, you should definitely laminate them as well. I promise it’s not as hard as it sounds and it will save your game from spills and tears and keep them looking great!

Change up your markers!

One of the things that makes New Year’s bingo fun is the different markers that you can use to cover up the pictures. This is where you can get really creative. Of course, you could always use cheerios, buttons, or other things that you may have around the house. But I love getting fun themed markers for this game!

Try using these gold sparkling marbles, some confetti with the year on it  or your favorite candy!

Start a Conversation

This game is a great way to help young kids understand the New Year holiday! Time can be a tricky concept to understand and these pictures can help you get started.

I always love that when I play this game it always reminds my family of happy New Year’s memories that we can talk about. What a great way to start a fun conversation!

Team up!

This is a great way to invite some friendly competition to your game. You can play boys vs. girls, in partnerships, or kids vs. adults to see what team can all get a bingo first.

If you have little ones that want to play, it might be a good idea to pair them up with an older sibling or an adult. Although don’t be surprised at how quick they check on to this simple game!

The winner gets a prize!

Build up the competitive spirit by adding prizes for winners! If we are just playing as a family the prize is always something simple like first pick for dessert or something silly. But when we play this at a party or with a group I like to get more creative!

You could make a sweet treat for the winner, grab some of these cute trophies, or how about a bottle of sparkling cider

Switch it up!

After each round of playing New Year’s bingo switch the cards up between participants! This is another great way to keep things fun because you have to look for the pictures in a new place each time.

You could also have everyone keep playing on their original boards after someone gets a bingo by playing for second or third place, or until the first person blacks out their whole board! Trust me, you’re not going to want to stop playing this fun game!

  1. I cannot thank you enough for these wonderful bingo games. I have a disabled son who lives separately from us. We play virtual bingo every night to keep us connected. We laugh, enjoy the competition, and have so much fun interacting. I purchased Thanksgiving and Christmas bingo games before I realized I could download free ones. This is a Godsend because we can now change games with each season or holiday. And we will continue playing even after the quarantine ends and we are all safe to hug and interact again. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
