Buying your first home can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t‘ have to be with this ultimate guide to buying your first home!
~This is a collaboration post.
I remember when I bought my first home. It was back in 2006 and to be honest I didn’t have a clue what I was doing! We bought a home we thought we could afford that fit our exact needs at that moment. But then something happened, we got pregnant with another baby and quickly felt like the home we had just bought no longer fit our needs!
Since my first home buying experience, I have bought 3 other homes and have learned so much each time I have bought a new home!
Buying a home is not the same for everyone. Everyone has different needs and wants. Each family might need a different number of bedrooms or desire a different amount of outdoor space, but regardless of this there are certain things all first time home buyers should do when buying a home!
Here is the ultimate guide to buying your first home
The first thing you need to do when buying your first home is to do your research. Where do you want to live? What are the schools like in the area? How much house can you afford? All of these are great things to consider before you even begin looking at a home!
Make a List
Next, after you know what you can afford and what area you want to be in you make a list. Make a list of the must-haves for the house. This might include things like 3 bedrooms, 2 car garage, a yard for the kids to play in. No one can determine your must-haves, but you. These are the things you can’t live without! For me, it was a big yard!
Then you make a list of the things you would like to have, but you don’t have to have! This might include an updated kitchen, a 3rd bathroom, an office, basement, etc. If the house you are looking for had these things you consider this an added bonus! But you can definitely live without them.
After the list is complete, start searching for the home you want to buy! This can be internet searches, open houses, and private showings to name a few!
Finding the Right Home
There will come a point where you will visit a home for sale and you will just know! I remember walking into our current home. I felt like I was home instantly.
After we toured it we put in an offer to purchase it. Immediately after doing that we needed an inspection Solex Group professional home inspection makes buying a home easy because they know what to look for. They are able to find every problem that might be lurking that we cannot initially see!
Every new home needs to be inspected properly to ensure structural integrity and make sure that there are no issues with the property in terms of wear and mold. Mostly it has to be habitable, and an inspection prior to moving into a home is a must. Think about how much you have to lose if you don’t get the house inspected correctly and you sign on the dotted line? It doesn’t bear thinking about!
After your inspections come back (and everything is good), it is time to finish getting the loan all together! You do this with your bank.
Close on Your New Home!
Once the loan is funded it is to time close on your new home! This is an exciting time and yet sometimes a scary time because you are now officially homeowners! You begin to move in and decorate and settle into your new home! At this point, it is always wise to do some research on ways to cut costs around the home because sometimes unexpected expenses creep up!
Make Your Home Your Own!
Now that you are homeowners make your home your own! Work on outdoor projects as a family, do yard work, maybe redo closets to be more functional!
Or maybe just enjoy living in your home for a bit before you begin to do projects! But whatever you do, enjoy your home you worked really hard to buy it!
So, there you have it! The Ultimate Guide to buying your first home!
