Fall is almost here I can feel it in my soul! I am a lover of everything fall, the decorations, the pumpkin patches, the cool mornings, and of course the Friday night football games.
I love everything fall including the cooking and the baking. We are a lover of everything apples like our homemade candy apples, and our homemade caramel apples. And oh the apple crumble pie!
This year though we are craving pumpkin! So we have been making our moist pumpkin bread, pumpkin whoopie pies, pumpkin cobbler, and oh the pumpkin monkey bread! But we were lacking a pumpkin drink that we all loved until now, meet Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate!
Pumpkin spice hot chocolate combines your favorite chocolate with fall classic flavors like pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice to give a perfect treat for breakfast or snuggling up after dinner.

Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate 2 Ways!
We love this recipe because it is made two different ways! One in the instant pot and one in the crockpot. We love that it is easy to make and simple to clean up.
If you have never tried pumpkin and chocolate together, now is the time to try. You literally will want it all year long, not just in the fall.
Ingredients:
- 2 Cups chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
- ⅓ Cup cocoa powder
- ⅓ Cup sugar
- 7 Cups milk
- 2 Tbsp cornstarch
- ¼ Cup pumpkin puree
- 1 Tbsp pumpkin pie spice
- 2 Tbsp vanilla extract
- Instant Pot or slow cooker (depending on cooking method)
- Whisk
How to make pumpkin spice hot chocolate in the Instant Pot

- Set the Instant Pot on Sautee.
- Add the chocolate chips, cocoa powder, sugar, milk, cornstarch, and pumpkin puree. Stir to combine
- Cook for 10 minutes or until the chocolate has melted and the hot chocolate has thickened.
- Turn off the Instant Pot.
- Add the pumpkin pie spice and vanilla extract. Stir to combine.
How to make pumpkin spice hot chocolate in slow cooker
- To make pumpkin spice hot chocolate in the slow cooker you will want to add the chocolate chips, cocoa powder, sugar, milk, cornstarch, and pumpkin puree.
- Stir to combine.
- Cook on high for 1-2 hours.
- Add the vanilla and the pumpkin pie spice. Stir to combine.
- Set to warm, to keep warm throughout the day.

- If you are using dark chocolate, it is incredibly rich. A small serving is plenty enough for me when using it.
- Change things up by trying dark chocolate and then white chocolate depending on your preference that day.
- The pumpkin pie spice is what gives most of the Fall flavor. Feel free to remove the pumpkin puree if you would like or you don’t have any.

It is easy to get confused while at the store between pumpkin pie filling and pumpkin puree. You do not want to use pumpkin pie filling so be sure to double-check the label that you bought the right thing.
If you find yourself buying the wrong thing and are still craving this pumpkin spice hot chocolate you can omit it.
The thing that packers the pumpkin spice flavor is the pumpkin spice mix. You can make your own homemade pumpkin pie spice mix in less than 5 minutes, you will be gald you did!
Storing
To store your pumpkin hot chocolate you will want to put it in an airtight container. It will store for 1-2 days. It will start to separate ones it cools, so just mix it when you go to reheat it.
