How to Save Money at the Hair Salon

I love looking and feeling my best, but sometimes that is so hard with how expensive it is to maintain good looking hair.

As a busy mom, I don’t have the time to spend hours in the salon and I can’t justify the hundreds of dollars it takes to maintain going to the salon every six weeks either.

But guess what? I have found some awesome money-saving ways that allow me to get my hair done and not feel guilty spending a little bit of money on myself so I can look and feel my best!

7 Tips to Save Money at the Hair Salon

Extend your visits in between hair visits

Looking great doesn’t have to cost a fortune! Here are 7 tips to save money at the hair salon thanks to these simple tips and tricks.

The recommended time to get your hair done is 6 weeks, but if you extend this to just 7 or 8 weeks this will save you 2 trips a year. I tend to go 8-9 weeks to save tons of money each year.

I know this can be hard because your roots will begin to show, but Madison Reed makes a miracle root touch up that helps hide my roots for those couple of extra weeks.

Buy the right shampoo and conditioner

I used to opt for the cheaper shampoos and conditioners, but the more I used them I felt like my hair was dryer and lost color faster, so I tried Madison Reed Shampoo and Conditioner and everything changed.

This shampoo helps keep the color in my hair and keeps my hair hydrated. In fact, I am able to wash my hair a few times a week rather than every day and it keeps my hair looking great.

In the long run, I save money because I don’t have to pay for hydrating treatments at the salon and I am spending less buying the cheap shampoo.

Get your Hair Colored / Balayage at Madison Reed

If you are looking to save money on your next hair salon trip, go to Madison Reed. Madison Reed offers an amazing color bar experience.

Madison Reed is a quicker hair coloring experience which means less time off work to get your hair done AND it is way cheaper than other salons for the same great quality that you are used to.

Madison Reed also is so easy! There is no remembering what you did last time because Madison Reed takes detailed notes and takes pictures of your hair so you and your colorist know exactly what you want to prevent all those oops moments!

Low Maintenance Haircut

Choose a low maintenance haircut. When you choose a low maintenance haircut you are able to get it cut at more affordable places rather than high-end salons saving you money!

Color Your Hair at Home

That’s right! If you want to save money color your hair at home!

Since Madison Reed is both a color Bar and an at-home hair color line it has never been easier to color your hair at home.

You can order Madison Reed products online or you can go to your nearest Madison Reed Color Bar and talk with a color specialist to pick the perfect color for you to take home.

I love that Madison Reed uses the same hair color products at their color bars that you can buy and bring home.

This makes it super convenient when you are short on time! I am totally planning on doing my hair with my Madison Reed home hair kit this holiday season since I won’t have a chance to get to the color bar!

Reduce Heat on Hair

If you want to save money on your hair reduce the amount of heat you use on your hair.

By air drying, it causes way less damage which means less expensive treatments at the hair salon.

By using Madison Reed products and washing less it is easier to reduce heat on your hair.

I usually wash and dry on day 1. Then on day 2, I will usually straighten it. Day 3 is a curl day and then day 4 is the classic ponytail! By doing this, I am not drying my hair every single day which is causing way less damage and expensive hair treatments.

Look for a Sale/ Good Deal

My final tip to save money at the hair salon is to look for a good deal. Madison Reed offers a great deal for first-time clients! Finding a good deal always helps save money!

When I go to the Madison Reed Color Bar I always opt to dry my own hair to save money!

I love taking advantage of these tips to save money at the hair salon so that I can keep looking and feeling my best, but at affordable prices!

These are some helpful tips. I did save a lot of money doing my hair at home for over 3 years. It was fun while it lasted, but the hairstyle I have now requires some salon care every once and a while. Thanks, for sharing.

Thanks! Saving money at the hair salon is definitely personal preference with what we are willing to give up. I try to do as much as I can on my own, but I defintely need a professional cut all the time. 🙂

I usually try to extend to 8-9 weeks too but I never did the math to know it saves me 1-2 visits a year. That’s awesome!

It makes sense to focus on haircare in between visits to the salon. I’ll have to check out some of these products.

So smart! I extend the time between visits as long as I possibly can get away with it! I need to work on buying the right shampoo. I’m sure that will make a big difference too.

That’s pretty awesome that you have a MD color bar near you. I didn’t even know they had physical locations. I used to order their color and do it at home all the time. Unfortunately, they switched something in their formula and it stopped agreeing with my hair. But I do love that they are cruelty free. That is important to me and hard to find.

I used to have a pixie cut with blond hair. Talk about expensive to maintain. I grew my hair out and get my hair highlighted. The hair cut is low maintenance and the highlights last so much longer.

I used to have the best hairdresser, she and I would barter my photography for hair appointments. Then I moved and don’t get that wonderful perk any longer. I started learning how to color my own hair and it’s not as bad as difficult as I thought it would be. I’ve been meaning to try Madison Reed!

Wonderful tips! To be perfectly honest I don’t go to the hair salon nearly as often as I should, I will keep these tips in mind for the next time I go.
