How to Make this Chocolate Toffee Popcorn Recipe

To make this sweet and salty treat, start by preheating your oven to 225 degrees and grabbing a very large sheet pan. You’ll want the pan to be big enough to fit all 25 cups of popcorn and allow for some stirring once you add the toppings.

In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the butter, brown sugar, salt, and corn syrup. Put the mixture over medium heat and stir frequently until it comes to a boil.

Allow the mixture to boil for an additional 5 minutes, continuing to stir so that the mixture doesn’t burn.

Remove the mixture from the heat and add in the baking soda and vanilla extract. Stir well until the mixture is combined.

Pour the sugar mixture over the popcorn and stir well so that the popcorn is completely coated. Put the pan in the oven and bake for about 1 hour, stirring the popcorn every fifteen minutes.

After an hour, take the tray out of the oven and spread the popcorn evenly on a large sheet of parchment paper. Let the popcorn cool completely.

Heat the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl for 30 seconds. Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir the chocolate chips. Repeat until the chocolate chips are completely melted.

Drizzle the melted chocolate over the popcorn and sprinkle with the toffee chips. Let the chocolate firm up completely before breaking the popcorn apart and serving.

Tips and tricks for Chocolate Toffee Popcorn

  1. You can choose to use milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet chocolate chips if that’s your preference. The pairing of the sweet toffee goes great with the semi-sweet flavor, but if you’ve got a sweet tooth or your family prefers milk chocolate, go ahead and use that instead!
  2. If you want to avoid some sticking, you can spray your pan with non-stick cooking spray or use a silicone mat. These Amazon Basics silicone mats come in a set of 2 and are perfect for avoiding sticky messes without having to keep buying sprays or parchment paper.

Can I pop popcorn without a popcorn maker?

You do not need a popcorn maker to make the popcorn for this Chocolate Toffee Popcorn Recipe. You can make your own on the stove top!

Many households now have popcorn poppers in their kitchen, but you don’t actually need one to pop the perfect popcorn. Just grab a large pot that has a lid and pour 1-2 tablespoons of your favorite oil in it, putting it over medium heat.

Add 3 popcorn kernels and once they pop you know your pot is ready to add the popcorn. Add in your desired amount of kernels and let the pot do the work. Stay close and give your pot a few shakes to continue stirring up the popcorn as it pops.

Once the popping stops you can remove the pot from the stove and your popcorn is ready.

How can I dress this treat up for a gift option?

I love giving this Chocolate Toffee popcorn as a gift for holidays, birthdays, or any other special occasion. Everyone loves it and it can be decorated to just about any theme.

For Christmas, I like to melt some red and green candy melts and drizzle the melted chocolate over the popcorn with the chocolate chips. You can even add some festive sprinkles or crushed candy canes!

Whatever the occasion, you can add a fun twist to this treat that will be right on theme. Once your popcorn sets, bag a handful in a treat bag and tie with some pretty ribbon. This is the easiest gift option for any season!

Don’t forget to make extra because you won’t be able to resist snacking while you make your gifts!

How do I store Chocolate Toffee Popcorn?

The great thing about this recipe is that even though it makes quite a bit, it will last up to 2 weeks so you can keep snacking on it.

Store the popcorn in an airtight container on your counter to keep it nice and fresh. If you don’t have a large enough container, you can store it in a plastic bag as long as you remove most of the air.

If you make this during a hot season, you may want to keep the popcorn in your fridge or in a cool pantry to keep the chocolate from melting!
